How learn to play double time

Post by jazzman1945 » Fri Apr 10, 2015 12:49 pm

After watching the video lessons of Dave have questions related to double time.
1.How tight control over every note in the passage? This means that it is first taught it entirely slowly, gradually speeding up ?

2.What is the lead in double time: logical rhythm, the right notes or logical melodic contour (musical tone)?

3. If I understood correctly, Dave says that during improvisation is impossible to know in advance where will the target point of  passage . However, we know in advance the chord at the target point; so as we get closer to it, the final note begins to sound the head more and more; isn't it?

the double time lines should be thought of as just faster melodies. The progression of learning in the Learn to Burn master class, second half, is the way to start developing the ability to think melodically that fast..yes to the 3rd question, the target will often (but not always) be a chord tone on an upcoming chord change..
