Introduction

Post by Kathy » Sat Aug 29, 2015 3:52 pm

Hi - I'm Kathy. Been looking for a teacher of improvisation for a long time. Teaching is quite an art. I finally found one in Dave Frank's master classes. What a relief! I have a degree in classical piano, am a retired teacher, hold Dalcroze certification [ music training through movement] now learning Arabic and Persian music. The latter two are an oral tradition that highly value improvisation, but I have found no pedagogy of the sort that works for me. Jazz is not new to me, either, but I have never studied it. I was fortunate enough to hear Louis Armstrong, count Basie, and Duke Ellington in person, was friends with Jorge Dalto, and am friends with Junior Mance who is still playing. I love the Spanish Caribbean music as well. It''s all beautiful music. For my part, I am working to develop my own musical voice. I look forward to participating in this forum.
