Joy of Improv for Guitar

Post by fm42 » Tue Aug 04, 2015 12:00 pm

I recently got Joy of Improv book 1 & 2. I play guitar. I can read music but I am still having great problems adopting these books to the guitar.
Anyone tried to adopt Joy of Improv for Guitar?
Although Guitar is mentioned in the text the chord voicings seem nearly impossible on the guitar, even when taking only the top 3 notes.
There is apparently a guitar version of books 1 & 2 (books 3 & 4) but I have not been able to find where to get them. Has anyone seen them. Do they have more guitar friendly chord voicings.
Do they have sample positions for the lines?

Thanks
Frank

The chord voicings are meant for keyboards. I think guitarist need to use Joy of Improv the same way a single note players do. On page 23 of vol I it is suggested that you record the chord progressions and play along with your recording.

As for chord voicings Randy Vincent has a book on 3 note voicings and another on drop 2 voicings for guitar. I'm not a guitarist myself but both of those look promising. I'd post a link but I'm not sure how Dave Frank feels about us posting links to a publisher other than Hal Leonard.
