Re: Transposing by ear JOI exercies

I'm not sure if I am recalling the same exercises. But I don't know if I would say I tried to do them totally "by ear". More Master Class Suggestions: Altered Chords, Substitue Chords and Passing/Transition Chords

I am always willing to give Dave suggestions for more work to do! ;)

I'll just say my top 4 jazz pianists:

Tommy Flanagan
Bill Evans (I prefer more mid and uptempo pieces)
Enrique Ibarguren

Re: conscious control during improvisation

I tend to like the theory, as long as it makes sense so I feel comfortable attempting to incorporate it into playing. That's why I appreciate the chord tensions chart. It feels more intuitive and easier to apply than substitute chords. The first attempts at trying to apply theory are very difficult....

Re: Tension Chart, Altered Chords and Chord Substitutes

Hehe, it does get quiet here from time to time, but we are still here (269 of us according to the member button). As with many things in music theory, there are several ways of looking at the same thing. I’ve found that certain combinations of tensions tend to work well together, for example, the b...
